This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") sets out conduct that is not permitted in your use of Velnode Browser ("Velnode"), the in-product AI assistant Vee, and any official plugin distributed through the Velnode Plugin Manager. The AUP supplements the Terms and Conditions and the EULA.
This AUP applies to:
a) any natural person using Velnode, regardless of whether the use is personal or commercial; b) any plugin or extension that is loaded into Velnode's plugin runtime; c) any third-party service you connect to Velnode (for example, a cloud AI provider).
Where a use also involves a third-party service, you remain responsible for compliance with that service's own acceptable-use rules.
You may not use Velnode or any plugin to:
Break the law. Engage in any activity that is unlawful in the jurisdiction in which you use Velnode or in the jurisdiction whose residents are affected by your activity.
Harm others. Generate, store, transmit, or display material that is intended to harass, threaten, stalk, defame, dox, intimidate, or incite violence against any person.
Endanger children. Generate, store, transmit, view, or display child sexual abuse material; sexualised or otherwise inappropriate content involving minors; or any material that depicts the grooming or exploitation of children.
Promote terrorism or mass harm. Generate or distribute material that promotes terrorism, the planning of mass casualty events, or the construction of chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, or explosive weapons.
Defeat safety features. Attempt to disable, override, or circumvent Kids Mode, the policy layer, the IPC allow-list, navigation guardrails, or any other safety mechanism built into Velnode (see the Architecture Overview). Parents and legal guardians may, of course, configure Kids Mode for the minors in their care; this prohibition is aimed at the children themselves and at malicious third-party plugins.
Misuse Vee. Use Vee or any prompt-engineering technique to:
Infringe rights. Use Velnode to infringe the intellectual property, privacy, publicity, or other rights of any person.
Attack infrastructure. Use Velnode to deliver malware, conduct denial-of-service attacks, scan for vulnerabilities in systems you are not authorised to assess, or otherwise compromise the security of any computer system.
Spam. Use Velnode to send unsolicited bulk e-mail, comment spam, or any other form of unsolicited bulk communication.
Misrepresent the product. Falsely state that Dignity New Zealand Limited has endorsed your use of Velnode, sponsored your product, or partnered with your business. Misrepresent the local-first architecture of Velnode in advertising or in dealings with third parties.
Resource abuse. Author or distribute a plugin that exceeds Velnode's published resource-discipline ceilings (see How It Works) without surfacing the requirement to the user and obtaining explicit opt-in (see plugin obligations below).
When you connect Velnode to a cloud AI provider or any other external service, you must comply with that provider's acceptable-use rules in addition to this AUP. If a use would breach the provider's rules but not this AUP, you are still in breach of the provider's rules and may be sanctioned by the provider.
A plugin published to the official Velnode Plugin Manager must:
a) declare every permission it requires up-front in its manifest; b) ship disabled by default; never auto-enable on install; c) lazy-load — do not consume RAM or disk on application boot; d) respect the per-plugin RAM budget enforced by the runtime; e) honour Kids Mode if the user has enabled it (no outbound network calls, no AI calls except via the policy-layer local-only path); f) not bundle external tracking pixels, analytics beacons, or remotely loaded code; g) not modify other plugins' data or Velnode's integrity-protected application files; h) carry its own license and clear attribution.
A plugin found in breach of these obligations may be removed from the official Plugin Manager without notice.
If you discover a security issue in Velnode, please disclose it responsibly. Contact us at [email protected] with the subject line "Security disclosure" and describe the issue with enough detail to reproduce it. Do not publicly disclose the issue until we have had a reasonable opportunity to investigate and remediate. We will not pursue legal action against good-faith security researchers who follow this disclosure process. See the Incident Response procedure for what happens next.
The local-first architecture of Velnode means Dignity New Zealand Limited cannot observe your use of Velnode and will not normally know whether you are complying with this AUP. Where we do become aware of a breach — for example, through a vulnerability disclosure, a takedown request, or a court order — we may:
a) remove a plugin from the official Plugin Manager; b) revoke a plugin publisher's ability to ship through the Plugin Manager; c) terminate the EULA and the Terms and Conditions with the breaching party; d) cooperate with law enforcement to the extent required by law.
